Wedding Planning Decision Fatigue? How Your Celebrant and MC Can Help
Are you engaged? Do you get paralysed with decision fatigue?
Decision fatigue is real.
Maybe you’ve felt it from the very beginning, or perhaps you’re six months into wedmin and suddenly realise you have approximately 847 decisions left to make. Ohhh, how I know this feeling.
Now, I know what you’re going to say.
“You’re a wedding celebrant and MC, not a wedding planner, aren’t you?”
'Tis true, dear reader. HOWEVER…
Not only have I planned two weddings of my own (one in Thailand that never happened because of Covid, and the one we actually had in Birmingham), but I’ve also helped a LOT of couples navigate the decisions that come with planning their wedding day.
And here’s the thing: for most couples, this is the first time you’ve ever planned a wedding. You don’t know what you don’t know.
You might be planning a beautifully personal wedding on a budget. Perhaps you’ve chosen a gorgeous dry-hire venue without an in-house wedding coordinator. Or maybe you’re creating a non-traditional, alternative or LGBTQ+ wedding that doesn’t fit neatly into the usual wedding planning templates.
Whatever your plans look like, there are a LOT of moving parts. And sometimes, you need someone who knows a thing or two about weddings to help you make sense of them all.

So, what can your wedding celebrant and MC actually help with?
When you hire me as your wedding celebrant and MC, I need to get to know you, your relationship, your priorities and the kind of atmosphere you want to create.
I want to understand how you want your wedding ceremony to feel, what matters most to you, and what you want your guests to remember. Are we going for heartfelt and intimate? Joyful and chaotic? Elegant with a healthy dose of silly goose? A little bit of everything?
Getting to know you properly means I can create a bespoke wedding ceremony that feels entirely yours. But it also means I have a pretty good understanding of the wider wedding you’re trying to create.
And because I’m asking all these questions anyway, I see it as an added perk that you can use me as a sounding board along the way.
Think of me as your friendly, experienced, wedding-professional-in-your-corner person. Not your wedding planner, but someone who can help you cut through the noise, talk through your options and feel more confident about the decisions you’re making.
It doesn't stop at the wedding ceremony, darlings
Over the years, couples have asked for my opinion on all sorts of wedding day decisions, including:
Your wedding day timeline: How long should you allow for drinks, photographs, dinner and dancing? When should everything happen, and how do you avoid the day feeling rushed?
Your wedding ceremony structure: How do you create a ceremony that flows beautifully, includes the people you love and feels personal rather than painfully predictable?
Your wedding reception and speeches: What order should the speeches happen in? Where do you fit them around dinner? And how do you make sure your guests aren’t sitting through hours of announcements before they can get back to their wine?
Your music choices: From your aisle entrance song to your recessional, first dance and evening party playlist, we can talk through the little details that help set the tone.
Your suppliers and entertainment: Need to think through your entertainment options or decide what kind of wedding suppliers are right for your day? I can be a sounding board while you weigh up your choices.
Your wedding styling and colour palette: Sometimes you just need to talk an idea through with someone impartial before committing to it.
Those seemingly impossible decisions: I’ve even chaired debates between couples who simply cannot agree on something. Consider me your unofficial wedding decision facilitator.
And these are just a few examples.
Every couple is different, every wedding has its own priorities, and sometimes the most useful thing I can offer is a conversation that helps you work out what you actually want.
Because here's the thing: your wedding doesn't have to follow a prescribed formula. You don't have to include every tradition, book every supplier or spend money on something simply because a wedding blog told you it was essential.
You get to decide what matters to you.
Why booking me as your wedding MC makes a difference
This is where having me as both your wedding celebrant and MC can be particularly useful.
As your celebrant, I’m there to create and deliver a personal, meaningful wedding ceremony that tells your story. As your Master of Ceremonies, I can help bring the rest of your wedding day together, too.
Your wedding MC does much more than announce the happy couple or introduce the speeches. A good MC helps the day flow, keeps guests informed, liaises with your suppliers and makes sure everyone knows what’s happening and when.
From coordinating the transition between your ceremony and drinks reception to helping manage the timing of your wedding breakfast, speeches, cake cutting, first dance and evening entertainment, there are lots of little details that help your day run smoothly.
And when I’ve already spent time getting to know you, your plans and your priorities as your celebrant, I can carry that understanding through into my role as your MC.
I can help you think through the structure of the day, identify where you might need more time, spot potential scheduling clashes and work out how the different elements fit together.
This is especially helpful if you're getting married at a venue without an in-house coordinator, working with a more DIY wedding setup or planning a celebration that doesn't follow the traditional wedding day format.
I'm not there to dictate how your wedding should run. I'm there to help you create a plan that works for you, your guests and the experience you want everyone to have.
And on the day itself? I can take some of the pressure off you by helping keep things moving, communicating with the relevant suppliers and giving you the confidence to relax into the celebrations.
You've done enough organising. You deserve to enjoy the party, too.
No, I don't just send you a questionnaire and show up on the day
I know that choosing a wedding celebrant is about so much more than finding someone who can stand at the front and read a script.
You're inviting someone into a really personal part of your lives. You want someone who listens, understands your vision, makes you feel comfortable and helps you feel confident about the ceremony you're creating together.
That's why my approach is collaborative. I want you to feel supported throughout the process of creating your bespoke wedding ceremony, from our first conversation through to the moment you walk back down the aisle.
And if you've booked me as your MC, that support can extend into the planning and structure of the wider wedding day, too.
I bring my experience as a professional celebrant and confident host, alongside my own experience of planning a wedding, to help you make decisions that feel right for you.
I'm also a firm believer that weddings should reflect the people getting married. Whether you're planning an intimate celebration, a relaxed outdoor wedding, a luxury London wedding, a wonderfully alternative party or a joyful LGBTQ+ wedding, there's no one-size-fits-all approach.
Sometimes you need practical advice. Sometimes you need someone to ask the right questions. And sometimes you just need an impartial person to say, “Right, let's talk this through, darlings.”
That's the added value you get from hiring me as your wedding celebrant and MC.
I'm Cat the Celebrant & MC, a London-based independent wedding celebrant and professional host, creating personal, inclusive wedding ceremonies and helping couples bring their wedding day plans together across London, the UK and beyond.
